Founder of Greater Love Tabernacle Church and long-time civic leader brings deep commitment and knowledge of the local community to hospital board of directors

Dorchester, MA – April 25, 2016 – Carney Hospital today announced the appointment of Pastor William E. Dickerson II, founder of the Greater Love Tabernacle Church in Dorchester, to the hospital’s board of directors.

“Pastor Dickerson has a deep commitment to our community and is a recognized spiritual and civic leader who has advocated for the well-being of the Dorchester community and surrounding neighborhoods for years,” said Carney Hospital president, Walter J. Ramos. “We are excited and honored to have him lend his experience and talents to the hospital’s board of directors,” continued Ramos.

“Carney Hospital has a long history of providing care to some of our community’s most vulnerable residents,” said Pastor Dickerson.  “I welcome the opportunity to support Walter Ramos and the hospital in this important mission,” continued Dickerson.

Community service has remained a hallmark throughout Dickerson’s life, including having served as a youth minister, counselor and Boston Public School teacher.  In 1989, he and his wife established Greater Love Tabernacle Church with a vision of addressing health care disparities and promoting economic development, general education and social action, in addition to meeting the spiritual needs of the communities served by the church.  He then founded the Family Conference in 1995, which works to promote public health through education and awareness about issues including chronic diabetes, hypertension, cancer and HIV/AIDS.

An acknowledged proponent for children and leader of many neighborhood anti-violence initiatives, Dickerson is the recipient of the Boston Celtic’s Heroes Among Us Award and Renaissance Charter School Champion for Children Award, among many other awards and distinctions.

Dickerson is a graduate of the Boston Latin School and holds masters degrees in counseling/psychology from Cambridge College and urban ministry from Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary.
