Steward Health Care System LLC (Steward), the largest private provider of inpatient behavioral health services, has added 70 new behavioral health beds to the system in 2014. This includes 15 geriatric psychiatry beds at Carney Hospital in Dorchester and another 15 geriatric psychiatry beds at New England Sinai Hospital in Stoughton coming online in December.

Carney Hospital today announced it has been recognized as a 2013 Top Performer on Key Quality Measures® (Top Performer) by The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of health care organizations in the United States. Carney Hospital was recognized as part of The Joint Commission’s 2014 annual report “America’s Hospitals: Improving Quality and Safety,” for attaining and sustaining excellence in accountability measure performance for Heart Failure, Pneumonia and Surgical Care.

Steward Health Care System (Steward) announced a new clinical affiliation with AFC Doctors Express Urgent Care (Doctors Express), the largest urgent care provider in New England. The partnership will add nine in-network urgent care centers available to Steward patients and more within the next year.

Carney Hospital has announced the accreditation of a new residency program for training physicians in Family Medicine by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. Carney Hospital will prepare primary care physicians in the delivery of compassionate, cutting-edge care for the residents of Dorchester and the surrounding neighborhoods.
